Sadie Williams wants to be pregnant. Only trouble is, every other woman of child bearing age seems to be getting there first. If it's not miserable enough that she lost the last one, well not lost, it wasn't as though she left it somewhere, but you know 'lost the pregnancy' then she'd be practically giving birth by this stage. And it hardly helps with Claire getting knocked up first. Frankly if there was a God, no God would let Claire get pregnant first.
Claire who has to tell her all about her boyfriend giving her perineal massage so the baby's head won't tear her open on the way out. Claire who crows in her ear about how easy getting pregnant was for her. Claire who still manages to fit into her skinny jeans even when she's eight months pregnant.
If there was a GOD, Claire would be barren.
Thankfully Maddy understands. The only other pregnant woman on the planet Sadie doesn't want to drive her car over. Maddy who still eats blue cheese and drinks bottles of red wine, even though her obstetrician has completely banned such prohibitive substances. Thank God for Maddy.
And Berni, who calls it like it is.
And Kate, who loves her unconditionally.
Four women, four inter-twinned lives, four mothers, all working it out, minus the manual, or the vodka. And mostly that's what Sadie misses the most. The vodka martinis, and the late nights out dancing. Instead she's awake at 2 AM for an entirely new set of reasons, most of which involve emptying her very pregnant bladder.

Thoroughly enjoyable tale of a woman's journey to motherhood
By Katherine
Touching and amusing insight into the nerve-wracking and neurotic world of trying-to-conceive and pregnancy and its impact on life, relationships and friendships. You can easily imagine laughing and crying over a bottle of wine with the lead character and her best friend. The author uses emails as the primary form of story-telling which makes you feel as though you are a part of their intimate group email exchange. A really enjoyable change from usual first or third person story telling.
Definitely recommend!
