About the Author
Charles Perrault was a French author and member of the prestigious Acad?mie Fran?aise. Taking his inspiration from folk tales, Perrault created the fairy tale genre, including such enduring tales as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Puss in Boots, and Sleeping Beauty, which were published in 1697 as part of his Tales of Mother Goose. Amongst the most influential literary figures in 17th century France, Perrault took part in the creation of the Academy of Sciences, the restoration of the Academy of Painting, and was secretary of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres. He also initiated the Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns, and led the Modern faction which argued that the literature from the century of Louis XIV was superior to that of the ancients. Perrault s work served as an inspiration for the Brothers Grimm, and continues to be adapted for the stage, opera, ballet, and film.
Gustave Dore (1832 - 1883) est un graveur dont les premieres lithographies ont ete publiees a l'age de douze ans. Il a tres rapidement acquis une reconnaissance internationale. Autodidacte et exuberant, Gustave Dore a illustre entre 1852 et 1883, plus de 120 volumes parus en France, en Angleterre, en Allemagne et en Russie. Decede en 1883 a l'age de 51 ans, Gustave Dore repose au cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise a Paris. Il a laisse une oeuvre considerable de plus de dix mille pieces.

Beautiful!

The illustrations are magnificent! They alone are worth the price of the book. And, for those interested, they look great on a Kindle (I'm viewing them on a Kindle DX). The formatting for the Kindle is great.
And the stories are good also. Well, okay, actually they're a bit horrific, like an old-fashioned, pre-Disney fairy tale ought to be. My favorite version of Cinderella is in this book. The writing style is deliciously old-fashioned but still easy to read and enjoy.
If you are interested enough to be reading this review, then you definitely should get this book.

Nicely done with original plots and detailed illustrations showing the "Victorian" Era style

I especially like the "original" forms of some classics. The grandkids will appreciate the "read-alouds" and illustrations. The print is clear and colorful on my phone's Kindle access.

Kindle Paperwhite - B&W All Right

The b&w illustrations are very clean and sharp on the Kindle Paperwhite. It is nice to have an illustrated book for an eReader that isn't strictly for Kindle Fire.
