Very good short stories

I've been reading J.R. Rain's works for a while now and have always enjoyed them so yesterday I grabbed The Santa Call since it was free and I really enjoyed it. First of all, these short stories are short. They're much shorter than his normal work - for instance one of my favorite short stories in the collection called "Nature's Assassins" is barely over a page long. The rest are a little bit longer than that but don't let their length stop you from enjoying them. It starts with The Santa Call when Santa calls into a radio show to talk to The Love Doctor about repairing his marriage and was a funny and enjoyable story. Then you get a story about an Ex Football broadcaster who's down on his luck and having to cover racketball of all things. Next is an odd tale titled Behind the Shower Curtain about a prank gone wrong. Natures Assassins is my 2nd favorite tale in this book. It's a fun read which should hit home with nature lovers everywhere and finally we come to my favorite: a magical tale called The Gift of the Magi which truly shows off Mr. Rain's writing chops. The last tale is based off of an old tale (I think) and is a beautiful story in it's own right written with a great deal of flourish and wisdom. J.R. Rain has never disappointed me and I eagerly look forward to each new tale he has to tell whether short or long.

Five Short Stories, Two of Which are Christmas Themed

This Kindlebook contains five short stories of various lengths, none will take you longer than five minutes to read. I really liked the first two, the third and fourth were pretty good, the final one not as good as the previous but by then the former stories have made the download decision worthwhile. The first two are comedies, the next two are mild horror themed, the last just a regular short story.
The Santa Call - The Love Doctor, a popular Californian radio talk show gets a call from a guy called Kris who wants help because his wife has walked out on him. The DJ isn't too interested in this call but as he takes each new line it's still Kris on the other end. There's something familiar about Kris.
Mad Dog - A washed up recently fired football commentator reluctantly takes a gig as the colour commentator in a racquetball tournament. He doesn't hold back his contempt for this so called sport or see any need to act professionally on the air at all.
Behind the Shower Curtain - A girl recounts how a prank on her younger brother went very wrong.
Nature's Assassins - Mother Nature gets her revenge on a polluter.
The Gift of the Magi - The longest story in the collection and the second Christmas themed one. Amongst other things covers the origin of gift giving.

Great Short Stores

This is a collection of short stories, each with a twist (which is only one of the reasons I Love reading JR's books/stories). The first and last story were my favorites, not saying the other 3 were not cute too, especially Nature's Assassins. :) These are great to take a break from everyday life when you only have a few minutes to read, that way you don't feel so bad when you have to get back up because you have probably finished one of the stories. This was a fun read for just that reason, I could sit and read one of the stories and get up and finish whatever it was I was taking a break from.
You will really enjoy these short stories. So grab it and sit down for a nice little break :)
